Save More, Spend Less
Maybe you want to save for a house, take a fancy vacation, pay off old loans, or just stop spending so much on fast food lunches. Whatever your financial situation, you can work on improving your spending habits. Check out one of these books to learn more.
Get Involved in Your Community
Your library is the center of your neighborhood! Our classes, programs, and volunteer opportunities are great ways to find neighbors who share your interests. Join us at one of these events.
- Storytimes: join children from birth to preschool and their caregivers for songs, crafts, stories, and more.
- Southern Stitches: bring your craft projects and work with other creative people at this all-ages crafting club. The whole family is welcome, or come on your own.
- Book clubs: our reading groups meet throughout the city and always love new members!
- Volunteer: so much of our work depends on the generosity of volunteers. You can be part of our story! Apply now and join our volunteers.
Focus on your Health
What does healthy look like to you? Discover new recipes, find an exercise you enjoy, or learn more about how your body works with these books.
You can also use your library card to find expert information on diseases, health conditions, and other wellness issues. Try MedlinePlus, by the National Institute of Health, which has easy-to-read information for patients and their families. To go in-depth with your research, try Pub Med, which has more than 26 million citations from biomedical literature sources.
Learn a Language
Expand your brain and your horizons by learning another language. We offer language-learning software for more than 80 different languages. Learn on the go with apps; watch movies; take online classes with a real instructor; and more! This software would get expensive if you bought it out of pocket, but it’s all free with your library card. Try all our options to see which works best for you.
Be Creative Every Day
Create, imagine, and take time for yourself every day. Our Planning for Planners class is returning in January. Come and learn to keep a beautiful and useful planner for the rest of the year. Use your library card at Lynda.com to take a free, expert-led class in photography, graphic design, animation, and many more subjects. Find craft and hobby how-tos and inspiration at the Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center or through Zinio eMagazines. Or check out one of these new books and get started there!
