Community Yard Sale Yields Generous Donations to New Downtown Library
Thanks to the generous support of Arlington residents and visitors at this past weekend’s Community Yard Sale, $2,274 was raised to support the building of the new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, which is scheduled to open to the public in summer 2018.
The Friends & Foundation of the Arlington Public Library hosted the yard sale at the Literacy House on July 7-8, 2017.
“We’ve had a lot of people come through,” said Anjelica Harris, a volunteer with the Arlington Public Library. “There was a line of people even before we opened, which was so exciting.”
With picture frames, lights and a massive Ball mason jar in tow, Arlington resident Beth Van Orden joined the savvy shoppers out to support the cause.
“I saw the Facebook post and I had the time in my day so I decided to come out. It’s definitely equally advantageous because I get to bargain shop and get some great deals,” Van Orden said.
Shoppers were able to have their pick of furniture, clothing, and various antiques, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the furnishing of the new library.
The yard sale was one of many events hosted by the Friends & Foundation of the Arlington to fundraise for the new library. You can learn more about upcoming fundraising events on the Arlington Public Library website.
