Beat the Heat this Summer with Family Movies @ the
Library Every Friday, 2 p.m. Woodland West Branch Everyone knows that June and July are super hot months! What better way to beat the heat then to come into the library and watch a “cool” movie! The Woodland West Branch invites all interested readers to join us in a daytime book club. The name for our group is “Good Grounds for Books” because we will have coffee brewing while we talk literature. The aroma should bring you to our small meeting room. We invite participants to bring a book to discuss with the group-either because you like the book or were challenged by your selection. This way we will “talk book” with avid readers and, perhaps, find some new good reads.

During the months of June and July, please join the East Branch Children’s Librarian, Mr. Eric, to watch a G-rated movie just for children. Parents and children are invited to bring lunch and watch a great movie! Children between the ages of 5-12 are welcome to come and enjoy the movie! Wild Life on the Move: The Unhuggables These live animals are not cute and cuddly but they are quite fascinating. Wildlife on the Move Wildlife on the Move brings live animals to the library in two separate programs. One contrasts pythons and boa constrictors, the other features snakes, reptiles, and other creatures that are definitely not warm and fuzzy. This program is for children ages 5 and up.

| History in Your Hands: Moon Landing, 40th Anniversary July 18, 2009 3-4pm Northeast Branch Children will learn more about what it took and how we got there from a former Johnson Space Center tour guide. July 2009 is the 40th Anniversary of the moon landing. They will be able to celebrate man’s most remarkable achievement by creating their very own miniature Apollo rocket. This program is for children ages 6-10. |

This magician combines magic and comedy into one hilarious program. This program is for children ages 4-12. |
| Game On, Jr. Returns July 27, 2:30-4:30 p.m. George W. Hawkes Central Library We are inviting Children in grades 1-6 to sign up for two hours of free play video gaming. To accommodate as many players as possible, there will be two separate sessions – 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. We will have five stations to choose from, with space for multiple players. After the show, children will be able to make their own tube dude to take home. This program is for children ages 4-12. |
| Final Summer Celebration with Mad Science of Tarrant County August 8, 2–4 p.m. MetroCenter, 1501 W. Pioneer Parkway Everyone is invited to attend our final program to celebrate all the fun and reading we have experienced during the summer. Our special entertainment will be Mad Science of Tarrant County, demonstrating amazing science tricks and facts. Read the Bookworm will be on hand for photo opportunities and there will be additional activities in the lobby before and after the show. We will even have a “corral” where parents can leave their strollers during the program. So head ‘em up and drive on down. Celebrate how much we love libraries and Texas. |

Every Friday in July, 3-5:30 p.m. George W. Hawkes Central Library, The Studio If you love gaming you’ll love this! Every Friday and Saturday this summer the Studio offers free-play gaming on the big screen TV! Games such as Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Soul Calibur III will be available to play. All the equipment will be provided so just bring yourself and your friends! A Studio ID is required but free to all teens ages 13 to 18 who show their own Arlington Public Library card and bring either a picture ID or a parent with ID. |
| Video Editing 101 July 21, 1-3 p.m. George W. Hawkes Central Library, The Studio If you fancy yourself the next Stephen Spielberg then we invite you to learn the basics of how videos are put together. Using Adobe® Premiere®, we will navigate the basics of importing, editing and completing digital videos. Current Studio members are encouraged to attend. If you are not a Studio member and are 13-18 years of age, then bring your personal library card and a photo ID (or parent with ID) and we can make you a Studio member! You will need a Studio membership to participate. Because of the limited number of computers, you must call the Central Library and reserve a laptop.
