How to Become a City of Arlington Volunteer at the Library…
Welcome
and thank you for your interest in volunteering your time to the
Arlington Public Library System. All of our library volunteers help
ensure the excellence of the Library’s service and help us to open
doors to a world of ideas, information, and imagination here at the
Library!
Volunteer service is performed with guidance and support from the library staff and may include:
- Volunteer tutor at the East Arlington Branch Homework Center working one to two hours a week with students in the first, second and third grades
- Volunteer tutor for the Arlington Reads program - Literacy training for adults
- Getting new books ready for the shelves
- Assisting with children’s programs
- Shelving returned items
- Shelf-reading (keeping the shelves in order)
To start the process to volunteer at the library, complete a City of Arlington Volunteer Application (pdf format). After you’ve filled out the application, you can drop it by any Arlington Public Library location.
Don’t forget…
-
You’ll need to bring in the prospective volunteer’s birth certificate, driver’s license, or state issued identification, for library staff to verify.
-
If the volunteer is 14 to 18 years old, the parent or legal guardian will need to sign the application in front of library staff .
-
Please remember to fill out all areas of the application.
-
Staff will ask you where you want to volunteer, so keep this in mind when you return the application.
What happens next after you've submitted your application . . .
-
Once the volunteer application form has been filled out and returned to Library staff, it will be forwarded to the City of Arlington’s Workforce Services department where the Workforce Services Analyst will complete the approval process.
-
Once the processing is completed, an applicant will receive notification from the designated library staff member to discuss where you will do your volunteer work and a mutually acceptable schedule to start volunteering
-
You will also be directed to see a Workforce Services to obtain a photo ID Volunteer Badge.
- If your application is not accepted, you may contact the Workforce Services department at (817) 459-6869 for information
We request your patience during the application processing period. We are fortunate to have a lot of volunteer applicants, especially at certain times of the year, and sometimes the process can take longer than we’d like. If you haven’t received any notification after two weeks, please contact the Workforce Services Analyst.
For those who anticipate volunteering for several years, applications are required to be re-submitted every year.
For more information visit the City of Arlington's Municipal Volunteer web page or any library location.
