Big Changes here at the Central Public Computer Areas!

July 5, 2011
ARLINGTON, TX—

Did You Know…. In June, more than 9250 computer sessions were reserved at the Central Library alone, accounting for over 137 hours of use?

That’s a lot of people who count on our computers being available. At our busiest times, we have patrons who may have to wait for their computer session to become available.

Good news! Thanks to funding from the Broadband Technology Infrastructure grant, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation AND a large donation from a private citizen, we are very fortunate to be ADDING 20 additional public computers to the Central Library and also purchasing new computer furniture.

In addition, all 2nd floor public computers will receive a new flat panel display, making the screen much easier to view with sharper images and better resolution.

Starting on Tuesday, July 12, the second floor public computers will be unavailable while we upgrade the computer furniture and get electrical and cabling projects completed. Later in the week, we will bring in 20 additional computers and add them to the newly enhanced computing area. We hope to have all the furniture installed and the computers back available by Friday, July 15 first thing in the morning.

Public computers in the basement and first floor areas, and our online catalog system, will continue to be available during this time period.

These changes should make it more comfortable to use the computers and will add to the ease of use of the computing area. We are looking forward to these new and improved resources and hopefully some shorter waiting times for our patrons!
