Arlington Public Library Sets New Record

The Arlington Public Library has set a record for the number of items checked out for the City's fiscal year. Ayden, Garrett and Tonya Brown were greeted by fanfare, balloons and media as they helped us across the two million milestone.  That item was Horrible Hair by Gerald Rose on Ayden's card.

Tonya Brown said, "It's our first time here!  This is the library I used to come to as a kid!"

Two million items in a 12-month period is a new circulation record for the Arlington Public Library System. Last year, total circulation was 1.86 million.  The library’s fiscal year ends September 30.

The Arlington Public Library System includes six branches, the Central Library in downtown Arlington and satellite branches in six public schools.

“We are excited to set a new record and reach the two million mark,” said Library Director Cary Siegfried.

It was 1989 when the Arlington Public Library System set a one million circulation record. Library officials say an average of 6,252 library materials have been circulated or checked out each day of business during the current fiscal year.

The Browns also received a book bag of library-related gifts, according to Library Development Officer Andi Davis.
