Library Staff Awarded the 2018 Margaret A. Edwards Award for Best Literature Program for Teens

The Arlington Public Library’s Librarian Morgan Brickey and Program Specialist Yuliana Aceves were awarded 2018 Margaret A. Edwards (MAE) Award for Best Literature Program for Teens by The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The award is sponsored by the Margaret A. Edwards Trust.
Our Creative Writing for Young Adults program is a creative writing workshop that connects teens with a local author. It is one of the many unique programs that the Arlington Public Library does to connect teens with different forms of art and culture. This program gives teens an opportunity to explore and creatively write what they want in a non-judgmental environment. Many teens write about LGBTQ or other personal topics, encouraged by being in a safe place where they will not receive an adverse reaction. Their writing is taken seriously. The mentor encourages teen participants to write without fear, judgement or censorship.
The Arlington Public Library will receive $1,000.00 to use toward future teen programming.
