The Arlington Public Library is excited to host three local authors in January! As part of Arlington’s commitment to supporting youth and families through education, the Library is excited and honored to showcase local authors and their work. There is no registration or cost required to meet these award-winning writers, hear their work, and discuss with other literature lovers.

Behind the Texas Badge Book Signing, January 10, 6 to 8 p.m., Downtown Library

On January 12, Doug and Carol Hutchison, the authors of Behind the Texas Badge, will be at the Downtown Library for a reading and book signing. Behind the Texas Badge is a coffee table art and biography book featuring personal stories from 103 law enforcement officers across Texas. Three of Arlington Police Department’s officers, Jesse Minton, Tim Henz and Dicky Hill, are featured in the book.

Doug Hutchison is retired from both the Irving Police Department and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Carol Hutchison is a freelance write and photographer. In writing Behind the Texas Badge, they spent a year and travelled more than 15,000 miles across Texas conducting interviews. Join us on January 12 to hear stories from their careers, tales from the road, and learn about what drew them to this topic.

Texas Short Story Award Winners, January 12, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Southeast Branch Library

Spend an afternoon with award winning authors, Karen Coan and Michael Scott Clifton. Both were winners of the 2018 Short Stories by Texas Authors contest.  Short Stories by Texas Authors is an annual contest to find the best Texas Authors while raising money for literacy programs.

Karen won the crime drama category with her story "She."  Michael won the historical fiction category with his story "Edges of Gray." His fantasy novel, "The Conquest of the Veil", won a First Chapter Finalist award. Michael Scott Clifton is also the author of Treasure Hunt Club and The Janus Witch.

They will read their works and have copies of their books available for purchase.
