Join the Arlington Public Library as we celebrate Lunar New Year! Lunar New Year is celebrated by people all over the world on the first new moon of the lunar calendar. The Arlington Public Library will commemorate the holiday with a series of fun and informative programs. All programs are free, and no registration is required. 

Lunar New Year Musical Presentation 

Saturday, January 25,2025, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m., Downtown Library

Join us for this special musical presentation celebrating Lunar New Year by famous soloist and violinist Xiao Hua Sheng, a professor at the Nanjing University of Arts. Presented by the Spectrum Chamber Music Society.

 

Family Storytime Celebrates Lunar New Year

Monday, January 27, 2025, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m., Lake Arlington Branch

Storytime is both a thoughtful and fun way to encourage children’s love of books. It will also set them into motion as future budding readers! Join our fabulous library staff as we explore stories, rhymes, songs, and more.  

 

Family Craft Night – Lunar New Year Special

Monday, January 27, 2025, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Southwest Branch

Gather the family and head over to the Southeast Branch for a fun night of DIY crafts! Free supplies will be provided for themed weekly activities celebrating the spring season, creativity, and collaboration. This is a come-and-go event. Themed crafts are intended for ages 5+.

 

A Splash of Color: A Tween Watercolor Workshop

Tuesday, February 11, 2025, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Southwest Branch

Brush up on your watercolor skills and explore the different concepts and techniques of watercolor with us! Each week we will learn a different watercolor technique, and create paintings based on a different theme each week. All artists welcome! 

To celebrate Lunar New Year, we are exploring the techniques of the art of bamboo paintings with ink and Chinese brushes. 
Come learn the techniques of Chinese brush painting by creating bamboo art!

 

Draw With Me

Thursday, February 13, 2025, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Woodland West Branch

To celebrate Lunar New Year, we are exploring the history of Lion Dancing, a popular figure in Lunar New Year celebrations. Come to learn and create your own Lion Dancer!
