Book Awards

Each year literary foundations, magazines, critics, fans, and other groups award prizes for the best books. Winners of some of the most notable prizes are listed below:

Andrew Carnegie Prize
The Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, established in 2012, recognize the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S. in the previous year and serve as a guide to help adults select quality reading material. They are the first single-book awards for adult books given by the American Library Association and reflect the expert judgment and insight of library professionals who work closely with adult readers.

Booker Prize
The Booker Prize is a literary award conferred each year for the best single work of sustained fiction written in the English language, which was published in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland.

Edgar Awards
The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, popularly called the Edgars, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America. The awards honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theater. These peer awards are given by Mystery Writers of America.

Goodreads Choice Awards
The Goodreads Choice Awards is a yearly award program, first launched on Goodreads in 2009. Winners are determined by users voting on books that Goodreads has nominated or books of their choosing.

Hugo Award
The Hugo Awards are awards for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy. The awards are run by and voted on by fans.

Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award
The Kingsley and Kate Tufts Poetry Awards are a pair of American prizes based at Claremont Graduate University. They are given to poets for their collections of poetry written in the English language.

National Book Award
National Book Awards are given to one book (author) annually in each of five categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation, and young people's literature./p>

National Book Critics Circle Award
Each year, the National Book Critics Circle presents awards for the finest books published in English in six categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Autobiography, Poetry, and Criticism.

Nebula Awards
The Nebula Awards annually recognize the best works of science fiction or fantasy published in the United States.

The Neustadt International Prize for Literature
The Neustadt International Prize for Literature is a biennial award sponsored by the University of Oklahoma and World Literature Today since 1970. It is the first international literary award of this scope to originate in the United States and one of few international prizes for which poets, novelists, and playwrights are equally eligible./p>
