SNAP Storytime for neurodivergent children and their families.

SNAP Storytime
Article Date
February 17, 2024

Starting in March at the Southeast Branch, there will be a non-traditional storytime geared for neurodivergent children and their families. The SNAP* Storytime Program will take place before normal business hours to facilitate a quiet and controlled environment that provides a safe and inclusive space to children and families that may benefit from sensory inclusive accommodations, such as dim lights, calm environment, and more. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to browse the children’s collection at their own pace with Youth Services Staff available for guided browsing. See times for SNAP Sensory storytime.

SNAP Storytime will be 30 - 45 minutes in length and is intended for ages 2-5, physically and developmentally. Each session will include a structured storytime with a visual schedule (including reading a story, and sing-along songs) to be followed by a guided craft prepared with different developmental abilities in mind.

Registration for SNAP Storytime is required and is limited to the first 10 families. This limit helps to maintain an accommodating space. Please register for the program by email at LIBYouthServices@arlingtontx.gov

* Supporting Neurodivergent Access to Programming:

SNAP programs are sensory-friendly and targeted toward the needs of neurodivergent children, teens, adults and their families/caregivers. Neurodivergent includes autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD, Tourette’s and other developmental and learning disabilities.
