Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Adopt-A-Category

  • Overview: Primarily Downtown and at East Arlington, this role helps keeps our picture books organized.
  • What will you do? “Adopt” a picture book category and shelf-read (alphabetize) it to make sure that it is in the correct order.
  • What is the time commitment? Weekly or Biweekly; Once a week. Available for Short-Term Volunteers and Long-Term Volunteers.

General Clerical Support Assistant

  • Overview: Gain valuable experience by providing the library with general administrative support and assisting special projections.
  • What will you do? Duties include labeling, restocking golf pencils, cutting scrap paper, pulling books for display, preparing books for FFAPL and wiping down PC area.  
  • What is the time commitment? Hours will be dependent on needs of the branch and staff. Available for short-term and long-term volunteers.

Shelf & Collection Maintenance Assistant

  • Overview: Available for short-term and long-term volunteers.
  • What will you do? Help improve library experiences by making sure that all materials are in their designated spot and readily available for patrons to access.
  • What is the time commitment? Weekly or Biweekly; Once a week for a minimum of 3 months Availability will be dependent on library branch needs and may require specific days and times. Most branches are not able to accommodate those who want to volunteer every day.

Teens Give Back

  • Overview: Join the library on select dates and times to make cards & small gifts for library outreach services. May include other library-related projects. Participation does not require you to be an approved volunteer. This is an open opportunity for any teen to participate.  Click here to see schedule.
  • What will you do? Participate in different arts and craft activities, making cards, bookmarks, etc.. for our library outreach services.
  • What is the time commitment? Program is held typically for 1-2 hours at either the Downtown Branch or the Lake Arlington Branch. Click here to see schedule
  • Requirements: Participation does not require you to be an approved library volunteer. This is an open program for any teen to participate in.

Teen Program Helper

  • Overview: Teen program helpers assist with program preparation, and clean-up. Most opportunities will be at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, but there may be some larger programs at other branches once or twice a season.
  • What will you do? Generally help with teen programs such as Teen Time, Teens Give Back, and other library programs. You may also help with large-scale programs.
  • What is the time commitment? Hours will be dependent on program and staff availability. Must be able to come to the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library for their orientation (for Short-Term and Long-Term).
